Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to mark the final entry in the wall crawler’s MCU trilogy. Co-developed by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, if the film’s first trailer is anything to go by, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is set to face his most difficult adventure yet in the upcoming flick.
That first trailer was a long time coming when it did release, and now we’re all eagerly waiting for the next official trailer to drop. If anything, the first trailer just amped up fan’s speculation thanks to its surprising character reveals, and in its wake former Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield is continuing to bat away rumors that he’s involved in No Way Home.
We explain that and more below as we go through all the rumors and news we’ve heard for Spider-Man: No Way Home. You’ll find more information on the film’s cast, trailer, launch date, potential plot points, other prominent leaks, and what we’d like to see as part of the Marvel Phase 4 flick.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Release Date and Where You Can Watch It
Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release on December 17, 2021, in U.S. and U.K. cinemas. As of now, the Far From Home sequel will land exclusively in theaters, unlike the upcoming Black Widow, which will also be available on Disney+ with Premier Access.
Thankfully, a recent deal with Sony means the Spider-Man trilogy will eventually make its way to Disney+ with the rest of the MCU films, following their availability on Netflix.
But if the past year has taught us anything, it’s that details are subject to change. Pandemic complications pushed the bulk of Phase 4 back and this movie was no exception.
The third Spider-Man movie was initially set for release on July 16, 2021, but was pushed back to November 5, before shifting further to its current release date. Hopefully, this is the final shift back, otherwise Spider-Man: No Way Home won’t make it to theaters until next year!
Spider-Man: No Way Home cast
Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature a gigantic cast. While previous Spider-Man stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei will be reprising their roles, they will also be joined by other stars from the wider MCU as well as stars from previous unrelated Spider-Man movies.
Here is the full confirmed cast of the 2021 film:
- Tom Holland – Peter Parker/Spider-Man
- Zendaya – MJ
- Jacob Batalon – Ned Leeds
- Marisa Tomei – Aunt May Parker
- Jamie Foxx – Matt Dillon/Electro
- Benedict Cumberbatch – Doctor Stephen Strange
- Alfred Molina – Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus
- Tony Revolori – Eugene “Flash” Thompson
- Harry Holland – Unnamed drug dealer
Former Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, along with respective love interests Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone, are also rumored to appear in some capacity as well, along with Willem Dafoe and Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Director, Crew, and More
Spider-Man: No Way Home comes from many of the same crew members as the trilogy’s previous films. Jon Watts returns to direct, after helming the previous MCU Spider-Man films, alongside executive producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. Though this may be his last Spider-Man film for the foreseeable future, Watts is expected to return as director of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. The film is once again penned by writing team Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and Michael Giacchino will also return to the trilogy as its composer.
Returner to the MCU, Seamus McGarvey will be tackling cinematography. He previously worked on the first MCU team-up event in 2012, The Avengers, and more recently worked The Greatest Showman and Bad Times at The El Royale.
Spider-Man: No Way Home synopsis
Plot details are scarce for Spider-Man: No Way Home and the official synopsis has yet to come out. But it isn’t tricky for those who have been keeping track of the entire ordeal to make an educated guess as to what the narrative could entail.
Peter Parker saw himself in some serious hot water at the end of the last feature, and it will be investing to see how things play out when the next spidey film finally makes its way to the big screen.
A lot of rumors have also come out regarding the Multiverse, and it would seem that Spider-Man: No Way Home will bring the Spider-Verse into the MCU, allowing for the return and debut of other wall-crawlers from other dimensions. The concept worked very well for the Acadamy award-winning film Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse that saw characters like Spider-Woman, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man Noir and more fight alongside Miles Morales Spider-Man.
What is Spider-Man: No Way Home about?
The third solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU, Spider-Man: No Way Home remains something of a mystery. There hasn’t been any official plot information released about the movie – other than the fact that it’s set at Christmas – but rumors suggest that it will finally introduce the idea of the multiverse to the MCU.
Its ever-growing cast suggests this too, with the multiverse seeming like a viable explanation for the return of Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Molina’s Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2.
Now, the title also supports this theory as No Way Home could refer to the fact that Peter gets lost in the multiverse, which might also explain why Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is in the film.
