All of the Madrigals have unique magical gifts except Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), but when the magic of Encanto falls into danger, Mirabel discovers she might just be her family’s last hope.
Directed by Zootopia’s Jared Bush and Byron Howard, and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”), the film includes original music from Lin-Manuel Miranda and is earning strong reviews as a “heartwarming celebration of family,” which means it’s an ideal pick to gather ’round with love ones during the holidays.
Encanto Will Screen Exclusively In Theaters On November 24, 2021
It won’t be long before audiences can see Disney’s latest animated movie for themselves, as Encanto is set to arrive in theaters before the end of the year.
The family-friendly studio has its newest title slated for November 24, 2021, which puts it exclusively in theaters in time for Thanksgiving, assuming the date sticks. But this time slot has served the studio well before, notably with Moana, and they’re hoping for renewed success.
Encanto’s Musical Story
The story of Encanto focuses on Mirabel Madrigal, the daughter of an extraordinary family. They live together in the mountains of Colombia in a secret place known as Encanto, which is filled with magic.
The magical properties of Encanto give every child a unique gift traditionally, but Mirabel is the only one who didn’t receive such abilities. Encanto follows Mirabel’s journey to accepting her place among her friends and family, while also playing a central role in saving those she loves due to danger to Encanto’s magic.
WHEN WILL ENCANTO BE STREAMING?
While Disney has not yet officially announced a streaming release date for Encanto, Collider reported in September that Encanto will be available to stream free on Disney+ on December 24, 2021, in one month’s time.
It’s not clear where Collider got the information that Encanto will move on to Disney+ after 30 days in theaters, as most of Disney’s theatrical films have had a 45-day theatrical window before heading to digital on-demand and Disney+.
Decider reached out to Disney for confirmation and was told that the release date was not yet finalized. However, it would make sense that Disney would want a big, family film on the streaming service for Christmas 2021. Stay tuned for the official release date, but, for now, expect to see the film on Disney+ on December 24.
WILL ENCANTO BE ON HBO MAX?
No. Encanto is a Disney movie and not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters. In 2021, HBO Max—which is owned by Warner Media—has been releasing Warner Bros. movies like Dune on the streaming service at the same time those movies were released in theaters.
However, that will not be the case with Encanto. Considering Walt Disney Animation Studios’ last film, Raya and the Last Dragon, was immediately available to streaming with Disney+ Premier Access
What is Encanto about?
Encanto centers around the lives of the Madrigal family, who live in a magical house in the mountains of Colombia.
The enchanted house bestows every child in the family with a unique power – every child except one, Mirabel.
The tables turn when the family’s house begins to crumble and the children lose their unique talents, forcing them to turn to underdog Mirabel, who may be their last hope.

When Is Encanto in Theaters Near Me?
Encanto arrived in U.S. theaters on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, launching in 3,700 theaters nationwide. Disney’s new animated movie is striving for a $35-40 million domestic opening at the box office (taking home $1.5 million in Tuesday previews) and $70 million worldwide.
Internationally, the film also arrived in several major territories, including Brazil, the U.K., Germany, Canada, and South Korea on November 24 and arrives in most worldwide markets by November 26, excepting the Philippines (December 8) and Hong Kong (December 16).
