For this reason, actors have come up with various techniques to ace an audition and execute the role to perfection. Top actor Seth Sheridan shares how he prepares for an acting audition and tips that help him beat audition jitters.
Seth has been in the acting scene for years. He notes that while still in school, he was performing short skits and was an active member of the drama club. Being an avid watcher of various TV shows and movies prepared him for acting, which gave Seth an upper hand in his first-ever on-camera acting project.

According to Seth, this helps him get a clear picture of the director’s style and what angle he should take. When it’s an ongoing TV show, Seth recommends watching some of the previous episodes to know how the dialogue flows and more about what the program is all about.
He notes spending time watching the show prepares you for the role as you have an introduction of what it entails. In cases where it’s brand new, Seth notes you can look at some of the director’s previous works.

Practice your lines.
“Thoroughly reading your part helps you understand your role and boosts your confidence,” says Seth. When you believe in yourself, you can play your part more confidently and manage anxiety.
Seth also stresses the importance of reading all the material, not just your part. He says this is a mistake many people make and can often lead you to a situation where you are stranded. Knowing the lines of those you will be interacting with on stage helps you act your part smoothly.

Don’t be too hard on yourself.
“Keep an open mind and know that even if you don’t get the role, there are still other opportunities,” says Seth. He adds that being open-minded boosts your confidence and helps you focus solely on bringing the character to life.
“It’s okay and natural to feel nervous, and you don’t have to beat yourself up,” says Seth Sheridan. He notes the most important thing is learning how to manage your emotions when acting.
