Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis explains why the studio delayed the release date. The sequel was delayed an entire year due to the pandemic, slotted for September 14th, 2021, but was bumped again to October 1st, 2021, because of recent surges.

Now, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is finally in theaters and has already broken post-pandemic box office records, having the biggest opening weekend since 2019, pulling in $90.1 million so far.

Andy Serkis, mainly known for his acting and mo-cap work in films like The Lord of the Rings and the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, took on directing duties from Ruben Fleischer for the Venom sequel.

Serkis began his directing career with the 2017 Andrew Garfield-led Breathe and followed that with a darker adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” with 2018’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, which premiered on Netflix. Serkis has said that his next film will be an adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, although it’s unclear if he’ll adapt it with mo-cap or a hybrid style of live-action/animation.

How to Watch ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’: Is the Marvel Sequel Streaming?

Tom Hardy returns to his battle with alien Venom in the sequel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” which is now playing. This time, Hardy’s character Eddie Brock, who plays host to the symbiotic creature, also faces Venom’s enemy Carnage.

The first “Venom” was a commercial hit, grossing $856 million at the worldwide box office despite some not-so-great reviews. Sony Pictures quickly put into motion plans for a sequel, and now “Venom 2” is ready to be unleashed upon the world.

With such a high-profile release, many may be wondering how it may be viewed. Is “Venom 2” streaming? Is it theatrical-only? Will it be streaming anytime soon? These questions and more are answered below.

Is “Venom 2” Streaming?

“Venom 2” is not currently available for streaming. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is exclusively playing in movie theaters. If we assume “Venom 2” will follow the same rollout as Sony’s other theatrical releases, it won’t be on a streaming service anytime soon. However, it will likely be released on PVOD sooner rather than later, so keep an eye out in the coming months. We’ll update this post when those details are available.

What Is “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” About?

Directed by Andy Serkis, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) returns for the sequel. Woody Harrelson joins the cast as Cletus Kasady, a serial killer put behind bars by Brock’s journalistic coverage.

When Brock visits Kasady in jail, Kasady bites Brock, spawning Carnage by mixing his DNA with that of Brock’s and therefore Venom’s. Female counterpart characters also appear as they get sucked into the battles between Venom and Carnage.

Is the First “Venom” Movie Streaming?

“Venom” is only streaming on the service FuboTV, but is available to rent online. Sources to pay for the 2018 film include Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, YouTube, and iTunes to name a few.

Head to theaters today — if you’re comfortable with current COVID protocols and the graphic scenes of the story — to witness 90 more minutes of Tom Hardy’s reprise of the daytime journalist and nighttime venomous vigilante.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage review

This low-stakes sequel sees the return of Tom Hardy’s Venom, a cheeky, gravel-voiced alien “symbiote”, and Eddie Brock (also played by Hardy), the human journalist he shares a body with. The plot revolves around serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), the subject of one of Brock’s articles.

Kasady is infected with his own symbiote, Carnage. Angry, red, and tentacled, they rampage San Francisco looking for Kasady’s mutant ex-girlfriend, Frances (Naomie Harris, fun but underused), who has a scream that topples cars.

In an improvement on the film’s predecessor, director Andy Serkis dispenses with detailed explanations and instead amps up the humor, leaning into the goofy, flirtatious dynamic between Venom and Brock.

Will future Venom movies be on Netflix US?

Viewers in the US will be able to watch Venom: Let There Be Carnage on a host of platforms to rent or buy. The film should come to Starz (the premium cable network, as distinct from the roster of ‘Star’ programming now on Disney Plus) and therefore services like Hulu that come with bolt-on packages for Starz, but probably not Netflix in the near future.

Things should be different for future Venom films: back in April, Sony and Netflix inked a distribution deal to bring the former’s slate of 2022-2026 movies – including the Uncharted movie with Tom Holland – exclusively to the streaming service, including in the US.

The deal also encompasses Sony Pictures Entertainment films that feature Marvel characters, like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s sequel and future Venom films. Since Venom: Let There Be Carnage released within 2021, it’s technically exempt from this agreement, though a Venom 3 or 4 movies would be included should Sony make one.
